Curse of Gaebolg

A small difference in an old rhyme's lyrics may be connected to the deaths of the three princes of Rune-Midgard.

Curious? Read on.

Trigger a conversation by talking to the Busy Boy in Prontera (248 212) You'll accidentally bump him and *BAM* goes his pile of books. Help him to pick up the books and you'll be requested to go to Mr. Karmoloff who's near the Juno Library.

If the conversation does not trigger, either:
a) you have too many things with you.
b) you've ignored him before.

If you've got too many things, just go to your Kafra storage and store some items, and then head back to the boy again.

If you've ignored him before, just talk to him again, and kick his books. /heh Then help him. He'll ask you now to deliver the books.

Proceed near the Juno Library (Juno 311 195).

Talk to the Historian. He's waiting for the research books from Prontera.

Talk to him again and he'll introduce himself as Karmoloff, 1st scholar of the Rekenber Historical Research Group. Hand him over the books, and tell him the delivery boy is afraid to take the airship due to motion sickness.

He'll be relieved and tell you more about their research. They're looking into the history of Rune-Midgard Kingdom, just because the Schwaltzvalt Republic and Midgard share the same continent.

He explains that Rune-Midgart has 7 Royal Families. Each family descended from one of the 7 warriors that founded the Rune-Midgarts Kingdom. According to records, Jormungand, the snake of the earth, appeared and brought chaos to the entire continent. 7 warriors appeared and drove the serpent away, saving the world. With the return of peace, the 7 warriors established Rune-Midgart, choosing Tristam Gaebolg III as the Kingdom's first ruler.

He sings a song,

The great serpent swallowed the sea.
The eagle of the rainbow swallowed the serpent.
Then the eagle built its nest.
A nest upon the swallowed sea.

He'll request you to bring a File Folder to one of his colleagues in Morroc to help his research.

Proceed to the Lower Morroc Inn (morocc 198 63), head upstairs and in one of the rooms, you can find a Historian and her assistant.

Hand over the document, and talk to her more and inquire about the song. Rodafrian will sing a different version, although she does not remember the full lyrics. Tell her the version you know, and she'll request you to find another colleague, Mondo, who is in Mt. Mjolnir to find the correct version.

Fastest route would be, to travel to Geffen, and have yourself warped to Mt. Mjolnir Dead Pit. From the mines, head left, and you should be on the right Map.

When you locate Mondo (mjolnir_01 135 168), sing him Karmoloff's version. He sings a different one,

The great serpent swallowed the sea.
The eagle of the rainbow swallowed the serpent.
Then snake scales grew on
the eagle and it slowly died.

Finding the strange difference, he says that Karmoloff's version must be the authentic one. He just overheard a boy singing the song, and it may have been changed since songs are passed down orally. He says the boy must be near the river if you'd like to find out more.

Head off to the upper right part coordinates 313 269 of the same map.

Upon going up the steps, you hear Mondo's version. Talk to the boy and the woman beside him will talk to you. Inquire more about the song, until she mentions the "accident". She will now request you to deliver herbs to Father Bamph in Prontera Church and hands over a Leather Bag to you.

Head to the Prontera Church, and look for Father Bamph.

Seeing you can be trusted, he'll tell you more about Jormungand, the great serpent born from the god Loki and the giantess, Angrboda. He mentions, that even when Tristam Gaebolg III and 6 other warriors killed the giant serpent, Tristam III's father was killed in the process. The giant serpent left a curse over the Gaebolg family, where Every first prince of the Gaebolg family dies at a young age. Now, this is the royal family's secret, and he requests that you do not reveal it to anybody.

Now he tells the story of exorcism, which was led by the woman you met earlier, who's name is Bonnie Imbuella. Instead though, of the first prince dying, all three sons died during the exorcism. It was Bonnie's duty to bear the burden, after failing the exorcism, and she lives in exile now. However, the Boy's version of the song reveals the Curse of Gaebolg. You are instructed to return to Bonnie to know more about the song.

After returning to Bonnie, she will tell you more of what happened during that day, and also mention that a fragment of a Red Gemstone was present during the exorcism.

Return to Father Bamph with this information. You'll be requested to investigate the bodies of the princes. Investigate the bookshelf to enter the mausoleum.

Look at the princes from left to right, to find the suspicious marks on the princes.

It is possible that the princes were poisoned, and if that's the case, somebody may have sabotaged the exorcism.
Exit the mausoleum and talk to Father Bamph once more, who will ask you to find a specialist from the Assassin's Guild.

Head over to the Assassin's Guild, and talk to the Assassin Guildsman(moc_fild16 201 295).

Ask him about poison and he'll tell you about the secret Inn locted in Morroc and a person named Marjana who may be able to help you.

Return to Morroc (43 108), and try to enter the portal.

Pay 1000 z to distract the boy and enter the Inn. Look for the Knight Litheron and enter the portal beside him. Look for Marjana, to learn more about the poison that was used. (There's a time limit of 4 minutes in the room where she's in.)

Once you find her, ask her about poison and marks that may be left on the body that was poisoned. It is possible, she says, that the poison used was not from Rune-Midgart. She tells you the way to find out would be to use a Green Potion and a Yellow Gemstone. The solution will react with the mark if poison was used to kill the person.

Exit the Inn. Do not use your Teleport skill or use a Butterfly Wing.
Reflecting on what happened, you may now choose to go to A) Rodafrian first, or B) head over to Father Bamph.

A) Rodafrian

You head to Rodafrian since her location is nearer. You tell her the last line of the version she's singing. You have the option to tell her about the curse or not. (Kung ako sayo, wag mo nang itsismis dahil wala naman siyang ibibigay na kahit ano. :lol: )

B) Father Bamph

Go back to the Church and tell Father Bamph about what you've learned. Father Bamph will now request you to bring a Green Potion and a Yellow Gemstone. If you have the items, you can return to the mausoleum and test the third prince.

*Psssshhh*

The solution reacts and you both realize that the second and third princes were murdered. /omg
Now that everything that happened is clear, you exit the room and talk to Father Bamph once more. Now that you found out the other princes were poisoned, it means that Bonnie had nothing to do with their deaths. She may have failed the exorcism, but she did not cause the death of the other two princes. Father Bamph promises to bring the matter up with the royal family, and will be very thankful for your help.
